In my previous post, I highlighted on the importance of improving the quality of life during the second innings for which one is required to maintain good physical, mental and spiritual health. First let us discuss about spiritual health which is very much helpful in taking care of mental and physical health.

What is spiritual health?:

Spiritual health basically focuses on purification of our soul. Meditation is helpful in purifying our soul. Anger, jealousy and greed are harmful elements for our spiritual health. Meditation and prayer are helpful in minimizing these negative elements. Positive self-talk is very useful in purifying our soul. During self-talk, we can say 'I am good human being. I love other human beings including my family members, relatives, friends, neighbours and kind to everyone. I am ready to extend my helping hands to needy.' Always think good and talk good for others. Never hurt anyone. Never forget to seek apology from the person who got hurt from your words or from your action. Forgive and forget the persons who hurted you so that you can free your mind and soul from negativities. Read good books for your spiritual development. Make your association with the persons having positive mindset. Listen to speech or lectures delivered by eminent personalities for developing good thoughts. Always practice to direct your thought process in positive direction.

Develop listening habit:

During the second innings of life there is a tendency to develop the habit of talking more and listening less. It is better to develop the habit of listening more and talking less. Patience listening to other person not only enable you to understand that person but also create feel good factors. Please remember that everyone like to be listened by others. If you give patience listening to other person, then you will be successful in making your position in the heart of that person. Many time we lose our credibility because of excessive talking. Talking less does not mean 'not to talk or respond even in case of necessity'. Talking less means to optimize our talks to the relevant points and to minimize irrelevant talks. Unnecessary and excessive talk may lead to losing focus from our main goal. You may get access to many useful information if you give patience listening.

 Have a sound sleep:

Refrain from touching electronic gazettes i.e. mobile phone, laptop, etc. at least 15 minutes before going to bed. It is better to maintain silence before going to bed. Imagine beautiful pictures in the World after closing your eyes while lying on your bed. Pray for wellbeing of all  human beings and living creatures in the World before going to bed. This will not only purify your mind and soul but also helpful in distressing yourself leading to sound sleep. Similarly, one should start the day with positive self talk and gratitude. Never start the day with newspaper as newspaper feeds negativity in our mind.

 Conclusion:

In a nutshell, for good spiritual health, we have to do meditation, positive self talk, reading good books, developing association with good persons and develop the habit of talking less and listening more. I myself prefer to read the following books which may bring substantial positive changes in our way of thinking.

(i) 'Neuro Habits'                                    by Peter Hollins

(ii) 'The Monk who sold his ferrari'         by Robin Sharma

(iii) 'The Science of Self-Discipline'        by Peter Hollins

(iv) 'Finish What You Start'                     by Peter Hollins

I have read all the above books. There are many other books on self development. Friends develop the habit of reading good books and develop good association of people. Let us create positive environment in our family and social circle so as to make this World the best place to live.

Second Innings of life is a blessing of God which can be utilized in a better way to contribute something to family, friends and society in large. For better utilization of second innings one has to improve the quality of life.

The span of our first innings of life is about 60 - 65 years having two phases. The first phase starts from our birth and end till we complete our education or starts earning our livelihood.  During the first phase of first innings, we were disciplined by our parents and teachers and most of our decisions were taken by them. In the second phase, we started earning our livelihood and it's span is about 40-45 years. In this phase we were disciplined by our employer if doing job or business norms if doing business.

The second innings of our life generally starts from the age of 60-65 years and it continued till death.  In the second innings, we are free from discipline or control by others. However, it is better to be self disciplined in the second innings to improve the quality of life. One has to practice self discipline in the second innings as we were not habituated to be self disciplined  in the first innings of our life.

During the second innings, we have to take care of our physical, mental and spiritual health for improving the quality of life which is not possible without self discipline. For improving physical health, we have to follow certain discipline in our daily life routine which includes proper diet, exercise and sufficient rest.  Mental health is also important as it is having linkage with physical health. Without mental health, one cannot improve one's physical health. With good mental health one can have sound sleep in the night which is very much essential for maintaining good health. Spiritual health is essential for our mental health which indirectly affects our physical health too. Improvement in spiritual health give us mental peace which is required for leading stress free life. Stress free mind helps in the improvement of physical health. We will discuss in detail in upcoming posts.

My Daily Routine Activities

As promised in my earlier post, I am providing you in detail about my daily routine activities after retirement. I am very much thankful to the God that I am blessed with post retirement life. I take my post retirement life as an opportunity to explore myself and to identify my potentials and likings. My daily routine activities include morning walk, yogas, intra-day trading, learning guitar, reading books and other household activities.

My day starts at 6.00 am. First thing that I do in the morning is  expressing my gratitude to the God for saving this universe, for our existence and for whatever material and non-material things that we are having. Then after finishing my morning activities I along with my wife go to a beautiful garden in my locality for morning walk. After finishing morning walk, we use to perform yogas in the garden and thereafter we proceed back to our home. We finish purchasing our daily needs while returning home and reach home by 7.45 am. Thereafter, we finish our morning tea and I listen to financial news in TV while taking tea. After finishing morning tea, I take bath to prepare myself to start intra-day trading by 9.15 am, i.e. the opening of the stock market. Before 9 am I finish my breakfast.

From 9.15 am to 3.30 pm, I devote my total energy and time for intra-day trading. Before opening of stock market at 9.15 am, I listen to the financial news and do chart checking to identify sectors which may be bullish or bearish and accordingly decide my trading strategies after identifying stocks in those sectors. In between I take my lunch with my family members at around 1.30 pm. After finishing intra-day trading at 3.30 pm when market closes, I evaluate my performance during the trading session and then I take snap for 20 to 30 minutes to rejuvenate myself.

In the evening, I take tea and snacks with my wife and watch TV for about half an hour. Then I play guitar for one hour from 7 pm to 8 pm. Then I check my mails and watch motivational and stock market related videos in youtube and thereafter I rush to kitchen for arranging dinner which we generally take at 9 pm. By 9-30 pm we finish our dinner and it takes another 15 to 30 minutes to finish wrap-up work in the kitchen. Then I spend another 45 minutes in reading book. Between 10-15 pm to 10-30 pm we talk to our elder son through video call. My elder son is a software engineer and staying in Germany. We go to bed by 11.00 pm.

My activities on saturday and sunday are different than that from Monday to Friday as stock market is closed on saturday and sunday. However, my morning activities i.e. morning walk, etc. and post evening activities till going to bed are almost similar to that from Monday to Friday. My activities from 9 am to 3.30 pm are different than that from other days i.e. from Monday to Friday. During that time period, I do my other personal and household works that includes inter-alia; identifying stocks for short term and long term investments based on fundamental and technical analysis, writing articles, shopping, etc,.

Starting Point of My Second Innings

I started second innings of my life from May 01, 2021 after taking voluntary retirement on April 30, 2021. I have planned my second innings much before taking decision on voluntary retirement. Spending time is a big challenge for many persons after retirement. But since I have done my retirement planning much earlier, I am not facing any challenge in spending  time after retirement. I am gainfully utilizing my time from the very first day of my retirement.  My daily activities after retirement are as under:

1. Intra-day trading in stock market
2. Reading Book
3. Learning Guitar
4. Extending helping hand in domestic work
5. Other miscellaneous works

Friends, among all the activities mentioned above, intra-day trading consumes my maximum time. Stock market starts at 9.15 am and closes at 3.30 pm every day from Monday to Friday. But for deciding the strategies and choosing trading stocks and its derivatives, I have to watch the financial news from 7.30 am and I have to finish my bath and breakfast before 9 am. Even after the close of stock market at 3.30 pm, I have to spend another half an hour in analysing my performance during the trading session and another half an hour in listening to the analysis of the market by the experts in news channel. As regards the risk management, I will provide details in another post.

I spend daily one hour in learning guitar and spend 45 minutes in reading books. I also spend my quality time by extending helping hand to my wife in domestic work. In this way, I am utilising my time gainfully after retirement. Intra-day trading is my main activity and also my passion. I am spending nine hours a day in intra-day trading from Monday to Friday and approximately the same hours of time I was spending in office before retirement. Then the question arise what is the difference after retirement? The major difference is that I do not have any boss after retirement, I am the owner of my time and I can do the work as per my choice and passion. The details of my daily routine activity will be provided in the next post.
